I like the seeing a new year coming in, pushing out the old. It's kinda like a worldwide do-over. You get to reinvent yourself; all squeaky clean and ready to be the best person you know how to be. I really love that feeling.
Like a lot of folks, I see my life as a work in progress. Making resolutions or goals to change myself happens monthly...hell weekly sometimes. So, I don't always make resolutions for myself when the new year rolls around. But this year I've got 4 things I want to address. I've tried to work on them throughout the year but I want to accomplish all 4 before the end of 2009.
1. Be a better friend. I don't feel that I've been the best friend I can be to the few people who call me friend. (It's a short list, folks. I'm not looking for pity here; just statin' a fact.) I don't call as often as I should, don't get together with them, let them know I'm thinking about them. Are you wondering if they do the same for me? Psh, I'm not gonna answer that 'cause really, this bears on the kind of friend I want to be, not the kind of friend they are. So I want to be better at friendship. Renew old ones and make some new ones along the way. It's really easy to get sucked into your own life and be blind to the needs of those around you. I feel like I was a little blind in '08. Time to see.
2. Finish the unfinished. Y'all, I have a lot of unfinished projects, knitting and otherwise, lying around. I've gone through them over the Christmas break and ditched a great many as things I won't touch even if they were the last projects on earth. I've narrowed it down to some really important ones. Projects that have meaning and that deserve to be finished. This goal is gonna be a toughie. I just got the new Mason-Dixon book and there are so many yummy things I wanna make. Must. Stay. Focused.
3. Learn a new knitting technique. I'm really excited about this goal. I was in a real knitting rut for all of '08. It's time to break out and learn something new! So, in January I'm taking a class on knitting socks on circular needles. Then, I want to learn Fair Isle knitting. I only picked 2 new things to learn 'cause I didn't want to get nuts...plus learning new techniques means starting new projects and I don't want to totally jack up goal number 2. I can't wait to share the results of what I learn with all of you. Hopefully it'll look much better than my crochet.
4. Get healthy. This is a big one. My riding got sidelined first when Big B had to go out of town for awhile then illness, weather, and I just gave up I suppose. But I have a big ride I want to do in the Spring. Plus I just don't feel good when I'm not up and moving. I'm getting a trainer for my bike, gonna alter my eating habits some and get as healthy as I can.
So that's it! Those are the things I'm shooting for in 2009. What are you goals? Share!
Have a wonderful and safe New Year celebration. See ya in '09!
