Spinning

Wednesday Wheelies

PliedThis is some of the Shetland I've been working on all plied up.  I haven't set the twist yet but I want to get more of it plied before going there.  When I took this stuff off the niddy noddy I was really pleased because this yarn was balanced folks!  Yeah me!  It's spinning up a bit thicker than I had intended.  That's okay because I usually feel unnaturally compelled to spin as thin as possible.  Making fat yarn is stepping outside of my comfort zone in a big way.

I think I've mentioned before that I have a ton of this Shetland to spin.  After I ply the last bit I'm going to change the ratio on my wheel and do some experimenting.  I love the color black but this is getting on my nerves!  I may go looking for some color if playing with ratios doesn't keep me interested.  (Boy.  That last sentences sounded pretty geeky.)

I'm off to get Boogie ready for bed, work on a new knitting project, (I should have pics up Friday) and settle in for some "Top Chef" action.

ETA:  If you get a chance, check out the newest issue of 'Piecework'.  It's all knitting and it's really cool.

Wednesday Wheelies

Dscn1139_1 Remember when I mentioned I was going to let my New Year's resolutions unfold?  Sort of like a beautiful flower?  Or maybe opening more like the Awesome Blossom; a big fried onion full of fatty goodness?  One of my resolutions was to do something other than knit at least once a week.  I've officially declared Wednesday 'Wheely Wednesday', my day to spin...or sew 'cause sewing machines have little wheels in them, too.  (Okay.  The name is lame but it's all I could think of.  If I knew how to make buttons for it I would 'cause a button just might take the saccharine-cute sting out of the name.  Or not.  I sure hope y'all are still with me.)  This bobbin is holding some black Shetland.  I know.  It looks brown.  I think this is about as close as a black sheep can come to being naturally black.  I really loved spinning this stuff.  I have this full bobbin and another 1/4 full.  I can't wait to see how it plies up.  I'm shooting for a worsted weight...maybe a bit heavier. Oh.  Did I also mentioned that I have a full pound of this Shetland?  Hope y'all like looking at brownish-black yarn for the next couple of centuries.

If any of you spinners out there want to join in on Wheely Wednesdays, leave a comment and a link to your blog showing what you've spun up!  I'd love to see what everyone is up to.

Dscn1140 This picture of my sweet kitty Zoe is for Chris.  Doesn't Zoe look peaceful and innocent?  Who would believe that, only a couple of hours before this picture was taken Zoe managed to steal a ball of Rowan Cashsoft from my craft room and rip it to shreds.  I love my kitty.  I'll miss my yarn.
