Where I Live

I was born in the deep South, moved away, and came back.  There are a lot of things to love about the South; friendly people, deep-fried food, a slower pace of life.

One of the things that's always annoyed me is the misconceptions that some folks have about Southerners.  The biggest misconception I suppose is that we're a bunch of narrow minded, Bible thumping rednecks.  So, I offer a selection today's Rants & Raves to dispel this myth once and for all.

"Women do have their role in church.  It's to teach the young children and other women.  I Corinthians 14:34 says women are to "be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak."  That is a quote from the Bible, not my words.  So, how do churches that have women leading services and in the pulpit explain that one away?"

Okay, so I could be wrong.

Was I asleep....

'cause this month just seemed to fly by!  Wow.  But knitting was done!  And, after missing an entire month of knitting with my group, I went back last week.  Yeah on me again.  So, here's what I'm working on:

Dscn2009 This is Sitcom Chic from Knitty.  Can't remember when I started it, March I think, but I've been in love with the look of this little sweater for awhile.  It's a pretty simple little knit, so far, and I can't wait to finish it.  Let's hope I actually do finish it!

Dscn2010 And, the ever popular summer project, socks.  I started these for Boogie in the Fall and the finished one is just a smidge to short.  My plan is to rip out the toe and re-knit the correct length.  I don't think it's that her foot grew that quickly but that her Mom can't measure worth a damn.

This weekend I celebrate my 23rd wedding anniversary.  Yes, I have been married that long.  Yes, he is my first husband.  Good training for number 2, huh?

Where I Live

A big thank you and kishies to everyone who sent birthday wishes to my Boogie!  She had a wonderful day!  We had a big party for her on Friday and Tuesday was her real birthday.  We spent the day playing in her sandbox, drawing chalk, and marveling at what a beautiful and brilliant child we've been blessed with. And yeah, I got a little emotionally over my baby turning 4. :-)

Weather seems to be an issue in Rants and Raves today.

"Did anyone stop to think the reason the turnout was so poor at the James Brown birthday bash is because all the weathermen were predicting rain, which never came to pass?"

I can think of another reason.  A celebration where the guest of honor can't even attend is sort of boring.  'Cause he's dead and all.

And weather issues seem to have hit the animal/golfer population, too:

"I swear I believe my neighbor's dog can predict the weather better than the weatherman.  I missed another golf time.  Next weekend I'll ask my neighbor's dog to predict the weather."

I don't know about the rest of you, but when that weather predicting dog thing catches on, I'm gonna be proud to say "I knew the dog when....."

My Birthday Girl

Dscn2012My baby is 4 today.  Happy Birthday, sweetheart.  Mommy and Daddy love you around the moon and back.

Where I Live

The 'Rants & Raves' section of my local paper has undergone a bit of a change.  Now, in addition to being able to call in one's rant and/or rave, one can email one's concerns to the paper.  And, though your email address is not provided, your screen name is.

Unfortunately, though, the following Rant doesn't come from an email address.  It was called in...and poses an interesting question:

"I would like to know:  What is the point in having a gun in your house if it's against the law to use it to defend the lives in your home?"

It could be used as a kitchy conversational piece maybe?  Or extreme discipline for that unruly teen maybe?  Just a couple of suggestions to consider.

Whoa

April sucker punched us.  Seriously.  We were all sick or one of us was out of town..and then let's add a ballet recital in the mix, too.  I haven't made a knitting meeting in a month, read a blog..nothing.

But, I have some picks, May will be a fab month and all is right with the world.  The main reason May will be fab is because....Boogie turns 4.  I can't believe it.

Right now I'm in the throes of getting her party together, cleaning up for an unexpected visitor and trying to get in a little knitting here and there.

Knitting and birthday pics to follow, peeps!
