Waiting

My Dad is back in the hospital.  He was admitted yesterday.  He had some tests done today and faces more tests tomorrow.  Now we're just waiting.  I'm not good at waiting and I know my Mom and Dad aren't.

I do have a contest for y'all but it's on hold for a bit.  Please keep my Dad in your thoughts.

Eye Candy Friday

Dscn1565Good piano gone bad.  Have a great weekend!

Actual Knitting....Really

Dscn1566This will eventually be Boogie's ballet bag.  Just big enough for tiny leg warmers, delicate little slippers and the occasional bobby pin or rubber-band.  I've got about 3 weeks to get this sucker finished.  I picked the bright blue to go with the pink because it reminded me of Fiesta in San Antonio.

Our really bad carpet job is being repaired by a very nice man.  He said that if he can't fix the seams then nobody can.  I totally believe him.  He's taking his time at each mistake.  So far, so good.  I think about half of the screw ups have been corrected.  I live in dread of losing a few more days of my life to anything floor related.  Actually I guess it's all flood related because my carpet would still be shiny and new if my freakin' dishwasher hadn't flooded.  Oh well.

Yesterday I followed up on 2 leads I had for playgroups.  One is a group of young women who are just down the road from the.  The other calls itself MAMA-Mothers of Advanced Maternal Age.  That would be me, folks.  I really enjoyed talking to the girl from MAMA.  They're a very new group so they're wide open to suggestions for activities and stuff.  Boogie and I plan on checking out MAMA next month.

Still have a contest idea rolling around in my noggin.  Details this weekend!

Summer Fun

Dscn1561 We had a wonderful weekend.  Friday evening I played Bunko.  I had the best time!  I ate too much junk food, met a really neat group of women and managed not to embarrass myself by drinking too much.  (Only kidding! )  Actually,I started a fight at one of the tables when one of the girls tried to not-so-stealthily flip her dice to get a Bunko.  Some people get really aggressive about the need to wear a plastic tiara.   (Okay, still kidding!)  Seriously though, it was a lot of fun and gave me a much needed break.

We spent a few hours downtown Saturday morning at the Market on Broad Street.  Lots of locally grown fruit and veggies to be had as well as organic baked goods from some locally bakeries and coffee shops. We scored some boiled peanuts and freshly squeezed lemonade, a couple of bags for Boogie and myself and some treats for the dogs.  There was a clogging and Irish dance demonstration and Boogie was completely entranced by the cloggers.  Come lunch time we hoofed it over to the New Moon Cafe.  New Moon has it's own locally roasted coffee.  I hope that there's a Coffee Swap 3 'cause I know where I'm getting my goodies!

After a really great morning we went home to face the boxes.  We made a ton of progress.  I've managed to find most of my knitting books and all of my yarn but I still don't know where my patterns are.  We decided not to unpack the books yet because we need to get some shelves and we're still undecided about where to put them.

Sunday morning we spent on the lake with a friend of Big B's from work.  He has a really nice boat and we cruised up and down the Savannah River.  It was overcast and sort of chilly on the water but we had a great time.  Boogie kept yelling, "Faster!" any time we sped up even a little.  She really loved being on the water.  Of course I forgot my camera!  I'll make sure and take it next time.

I realized the other day that I've passed 1500 comments on this blog.  I think that calls for a contest so keep your eyes peeled for the details!

Eye Candy Friday

Dscn1542_2Southern comfort.  Mmmm.  Y'all have a good weekend!

I'm new here

This week got off to a really positive start.  My Dad is doing really good.  His condition is not life threatening and treatable.  We're all very relieved!!

Tuesday I checked out the local knitting group.  Ya know, it's always hard to be the new kid. Everyone there was nice but they have a history that I don't share and that can be tough.  I knit like a mad woman, bought some yarn for another project and contributed to the conversation when appropriate.  Wait, take a look at Cecil.  He's cute and isn't as maudlin as I'm about to become.

Dscn1544 Isn't he one handsome dude?  If I could just get him to wear socks he'd be the perfect little model for all things knitted.  Especially scarves.  Wouldn't he look great in a scarf?

Okay so back to the knitting group thing.  I really, really miss my old group.  This was a nice group of ladies but not the same...know what I mean?  For the first time during this whole move I'm genuinely homesick and that just sucks.  But ya know what?  I've always been pretty good at adapting to change and this time will be no different!  Friday I'm going to play Bunko.  I'll hit the knitting group again next month and, before you know it, I'll feel like I've been here all along...if that makes any sort of sense.

Tuesday I made a lot of progress on Glee.  I also swatched for some socks for Big B and I've been plugging away at Boogie's ballet bag.  The bag is very colorful and cute, just like my Boogie!  I want to knit a bit more on the bag before I take pictures.

I'm off to the grocery store this morning and maybe a St*rb*cks action.  Who knows what the day will hold?

Sincere Thanks

Thank you all so much for the good wishes for my Dad.  He was released late Thursday and, though he's not feeling a whole lot better and has a test or two ahead at least he's home.  Home is the best place to get well.  I'll keep y'all posted on how he's doing.

Now for something completely silly.  This seems an appropriate title considering all the crap we've gone through lately:

My Peculiar Aristocratic Title is:
Her Excellency Susan the Coherent of Goosnargh on the Carpet
Get your Peculiar Aristocratic Title

Coherent is probably not accurate and if I find ANY Goosnargh on this carpet somebody is gonna pay!  (Thanks for the link, Mary!)

Nothing Funny Here

I had a really witty post planned about my trip to the LYS, how cute Boogie looks in a tutu and about the project I started for her.  Instead I can only offer this:

*  The carpet is completely finished.  I have never seen two people work so slowly and do such a shitty job in my whole life.

*  My Dad is in the hospital.  Don't know how serious things are or aren't but hospitals suck.  Having a parent not feeling well sucks, too.

I'm done.  Someone give me some warm milk and a promise that things do get better.

Here's Something for Your Eye!

We had a mellow, groovy weekend.  We ate out, bought Boogie some incredibly pink bedding, (it really makes my eyes hurt but she likes it) and took a trip to the dump.  Nothing like a visit to a local landfill to bring the old fam closer together.  Watching the vultures swarm the smelly hills was, well, not worth me taking a picture of I can tell you that! We made some progress on unpacking and finding more things.  If we're lucky our new carpet will be installed this week and I should have a line on which ballet class Boogie will be attending.  Our choices are Monday or Saturday.  I'm hoping for Saturday just 'cause I know Big B wants to see Boogie dance.  Oh, and did I mention I knit? Dscn1541Can I get a "Hell Yeah" folks?   This is Glee.  Glee has been languishing in a backpack but has become my knitting wooby.  No, there hasn't been a whole lot of progress but knitting woobies aren't really about progress but about feeling comforted and this sucker is doing it's job.  I lurv the yarn, the color and the fact that it doesn't make me gain weight like a giant comforting doughnut might.  I'm back, kids, with all my teeth intact and branishing knitting needles at the world!  Okay, maybe that's a bit challenging and brash.  Wouldn't something else to flood us out now would we?

ETA:  The carpet goes in tomorrow morning and Boogie got her Saturday ballet class.

I'm a little slow on the uptake

Awhile back the lovely sweetie pie Ruth named me as a Rockin' Girl Blogger.
